Induction Loop
Induction Loop Systems allow the hearing impaired to hear more clearly. The Induction Loop transmits the sound from a microphone, television or any other sound device directly to a person’s hearing aid. In the UK, this was made legislation by the Disability Discrimination Act in October 2004 and a legal requirement. This legislation affects service providers such as Churches, Schools, and Care Homes, who must now make provision for the hard of hearing. Additional legislation that affects facilities for the hard of hearing include:
- Building Regulations ‘ Document M’ (England and Wales) – with particular reference to the provision of communication aids.
- Human Rights Act (1998) – An individual’s right to be accommodated if they are deaf.
- British Standards BS 300 – For the design of buildings to meet the needs of disabled people
- Care Standards Act (2000) – England-based care homes must provide equipment to facilitate the hearing impaired.
